Liberatory Lineages: Unpacking & Resisting Anti-Blackness

"Liberatory Lineages: Unpacking & Resisting Anti-Blackness," is an online, four-part workshop series that deepens our individual capacity and collective joint struggle and solidarity to unpack, resist, and intervene in anti-Blackness.

Created and facilitated by a group of intergenerational Black and Non-Black POC organizers, community leaders, scholars, artists, and land workers, “Liberatory Lineages” offers participants access to:

  1. Politically radical curriculum that builds collective clarity and understanding of anti-Blackness as a global colonial project and an inherent mechanism through which white supremacy operates in the U.S. nation state;

  2. Grassroots teach-ins from community leaders who share lessons about collective power-building, organizing, and liberation movements in our histories. These lessons will include reflections on joint struggle and resistance movements at the height of anti-colonial, anti-imperial, internationalist organizing;

  3. An intentional reflection space that supports and challenges individual participants and the collective to deepen our resourcefulness and networks of support;

  4. An empowering space that will foster clarity and direction around our collaborative strategies to inform, practice, intervene, and engage in joint struggle to resist and heal from anti-Blackness in our life and communities.

  5. Collaborative resource guides with further readings, actions, recommendations for grassroots orgs to build with, and more.

This workshop series is for everyone committed to disrupting anti-Blackness on interpersonal, communal, and systemic levels. We will be prioritizing the safety and participation of Black people, indigenous people, and people of color.

Our last workshop series ran from October-December 2021. Check back in 2024 for more information about the next workshop, or sign up for our mailing list to be directly notified!

Reflections from our 2021 Liberatory Lineages participants!

“I am just deeply grateful for all of the work that the organizers and participants put in! The level of intentionality and compassion in the organizing really showed through and made it such a generative and kind space. I feel so motivated and energized toward leveraging relational organizing to combat anti-Blackness and other forms of oppression.”

“I've really been blown away by the entire series - thank you so much to all of the facilitators for all of the preparation and coordination/collaboration. My pod and adjacent organizing pod met to start debreifing last week. For me personally, some things that emerged as key learnings include really understanding what solidarity can look like and the importance of having a deep and intersectional awareness in organizing, having some helpful tools around transformative justice and socio-emotional awareness, and continuing to remember the importance of lineage. Also the continued need to redistribute wealth.”

“I feel like I learned a lot about myself and others. I also feel more prepared to talk about anti-Blackness with other people, including those who aren't as committed to fighting anti-Blackness within themselves and their communities. I also think these workshops offered really helpful historical examples and background information, which increased my understanding of both historical and contemporary environments and attitudes of anti-Blackness.”

While I love learning from the teach-ins, the pod breakout meeting is definitely my favorite part of the session. I really appreciate the time in our pods because it allows pod members to digest everything we learned together. Also, I find that one person's stories and opinions help others form and share their own.

“I appreciated the reminder of how POC and Black people in particular are gas-lighted, blamed as being "oversensitive" and otherwise discounted when simply pointing out, let alone challenging, white supremacy, in interpersonal and institutional contexts.”
