Muslim Abolitionist Futures: Abolishing the War on Terror & Building Communities of Care

Muslim Abolitionist Futures is an interactive platform to learn and engage with the stories and work of resistance against the War on Terror.

In December of 2020, Justice for Muslims Collective brought together “Muslim Abolitionst Futures,” a group of partner grassroots organizations across the country that are led and rooted in communities targeted by the War on Terror. Vigilant Love is an anchor organization in this space.

The War on Terror is the infrastructure used to police, surveil and incarcerate African, Black, Indigenous, Muslim, Middle Eastern, Arab, and South Asian communities under the guise of national security. It is codified through a set of laws, policies, and programs. According to Brown University’s Cost of War Project, the global War on Terror has resulted in the murder of 12 million individuals and has produced 37 million refugees across the world. Overall, the War on Terror has cost the American public 6.4 trillion dollars.

Muslim Abolitionist Futures centers the lived experiences of those who have fought for the past two decades in organizing spaces and the organizations who are leading with an abolitionist vision for our Muslim communities. As part of the work, we will continue carrying out the vision outlined in our policy agenda and our website through our National Network To Abolish the War on Terror.
